Join us for this unique collaboration between jazz and classical musicians now in its twenty-first season. Featured will be the 11-piece ensemble paying tribute to the music of the recent luminary jazz pianist, Dave Brubeck.

Although most famous for tracks such as Take Five on his legendary Time Out album, Brubeck was also the composer of many choral, symphonic and chamber works, such as the beautifully haunting Regret.

Other featured composers will be Darius Milhaud, Brubeck’s teacher in California, as well as Paul Desmond and Dick Hyman. Milhaud encouraged Brubeck to use the languages of jazz and classical music in his compositions.

Also highlighted will be Homage a Dave, by James Scott Balentine, commissioned for Jazz Meets Classical by Musical Offerings in 2006. Brubeck’s music tremendously influenced Jim’s musical life, and Jim here captures the unique combination of jazz and classical techniques Brubeck used.
